What are the Top Best Compact Cameras of 2022?

The best compact cameras still have a lot to offer in 2022, even though smartphone cameras may be better than ever. Looking for a cost-effective camera that can capture stunning still images and videos? To assist you in finding just that, we've put together the list below based on hundreds of hours of testing.

What is the best compact camera available right now, overall? We believe it to be a Fujifilm X100V. A fixed 23mm lens, quick autofocus, and pocket-friendly proportions all work together to produce consistently sharp images. Thanks to the tilting screen and hybrid viewfinder, framing is also enjoyable. However, given its pricing and niche nature, we've provided a number of options below.

Looking for a little less expensive option? The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV is the greatest compact camera for customers on a tight budget, and we heartily recommend it. It's not the newest option, but it offers the best value overall because of its compact size, very powerful 1-inch sensor, and well-hidden viewfinder.

Only the top specimens of each small camera pass our rigorous testing process. Be sure to read our list of the best travel cameras if you're specifically looking for one. But if you're looking for a top-notch small camera, you should find it here thanks to our in-depth evaluations, helpful purchase advice, and integrated price comparison tool.

The Top Portable and Action Cameras

An action cam can be your best option if you're just starting out with vlogging or require a tiny, durable camera. Since you don't have to worry about exposure or focus, they are generally simple to use. Additionally, more recent versions provide good electronic stabilization in addition to up to 4K, 60 fps, and clear, vivid footage. The drawbacks include a lack of control, inferior image quality to that of larger cameras, and a lack of magnification and lens-change options.

DJI Pocket II

The original Osmo Pocket was the model we advised last time. However, the Pocket II (no longer called "Osmo") has several significant upgrades. It includes a three-axis gimbal mount and, as before, boasts outstanding face tracking that keeps your subject in sharp focus. The new model, however, includes a larger, 64-megapixel sensor with a far greater resolution, a quicker lens with a wider field of view, and upgraded mics. You may still purchase extras like an extension rod, a waterproof case, and other items.

The following modes and facial tracking on the Pocket II are what make it perfect for vlogging. If you're working alone, all you have to do is set it up; it will tilt and spin to follow you. You don't need to worry about focus or even pointing the camera at yourself when vlogging while you walk and talk. It's a useful tool for any vlogger and is suitable for beginners at $346.

Hero 10 Black by GoPro

The Hero 10 Black is what we referred to as a "huge, imperceptible upgrade" over the Hero 9, which was a far better camera than the Hero 8 Black that we previously suggested. The new processor, which enables features like higher-resolution 5.3K 60p and 4K 120fps video, significantly better Hypersmooth 4.0 stabilization, an improved front screen, and more, is largely to blame for this. With a relatively manageable $350 pricing and a 1-year GoPro membership, all of that makes it perfect for attaching to a drone, vehicle, helmet, bicycle, and more.

DJI Action 2

With its most recent Action 2 camera, DJI adopted a very different strategy than GoPro, with less Osmo branding. It's a modular system with a magnetic mount rather than a standalone camera. It allows you to add additional features like a touchscreen module with a second OLED display and three extra microphones or a battery module with a different micro SD slot. Similar to the Pocket 2, it comes with a ton of accessories, including a 3-in-1 extension rod. If you do more than just action shooting, this is a flexible option that is reasonably priced at $399.

The Top Mirrorless and DSLR Video Cameras

This class has undergone the most change in recent years, especially in the more cheap price ranges. Most alternatives for vlogging come from interchangeable lens cameras, which have larger sensors than compact cameras, superior low-light sensitivity, and shallower depths of focus to isolate you or your subject. They also provide you with more personal control over your image and include a 10-bit video, log recording, and other features. The disadvantages include more weight, complexity, and cost when compared to action or tiny cameras.

Fujifilm X-S10

Because of its lower pricing, Fujifilm's X-S10 has replaced the X-T4 as the top vlogging camera available. With in-body stabilization, 10-bit 4K external video with F-Log recording (at up to 30fps) combined with 1080p at an exceptional 240 fps, a screen that flips out to the side, and simple controls, it checks all the boxes for vloggers. It also has a USB-C port that functions as a headphone jack and a headphone jack. The primary drawback is the touchscreen's limited functionality, but for just $1,000, you get a lot of cameras.

Sony ZV-E10

The ZV-E10 is currently the best Sony APS-C camera for vlogging. It has a number of helpful features for self-shooters despite using many of the same worn-out components as the A6100, including the 24.2-megapixel sensor. The excellent autofocus from Sony, which includes the same background defocus and Product Showcase features as the ZV-1 compact, is at the top of the list. A thoroughly articulating display, electronic SteadyShot, and other features are included. The major flaw is the rolling shutter, which can become problematic if you shake the camera around excessively. It costs $700 for the body or $800 when purchased with Sony's 16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 power zoom lens if you can find one.

Fujifilm X-T4

A fantastic all-purpose mirrorless camera for vlogging is the Fujifilm X-T4. A fully articulated display, continuous eye- and face focusing, 10-bit 4K log recording at up to 60 frames per second, 5-axis in-body stabilization, microphone connectors, headphone jacks (the latter through USB-C), and decreased noise in low light are just a few of its many features.

Skin tones, in particular, exhibit lifelike image quality, and the sensor exhibits little rolling shutter. It also has two UHS-II card slots and long battery life. In addition, Fujifilm has an excellent range of compact lenses that are perfect for vlogging, and it is relatively lightweight considering all the features. What I don't like is the slower and less precise autofocus technology compared to Sony's, as well as the $1,700 asking price for the body itself.

Nikon Z FC

Check out Nikon's fashionable Z FC if you want to look beautiful while vlogging. With features including a 20.9-megapixel APS-C sensor, 4K at 30 frames per second, and a dependable phase-detect autofocus system with facial identification, it is essentially identical to the Z50. The Z FC, on the other hand, has a gorgeous antique body covered with practical manual controls and a vari-angle touchscreen. It lacks optical stabilization built-in, although you can add that using a lens. The affordability is the best feature, though; one with a 16-50mm lens costs only $1,100.
